Principal's Message

Welcome to Alta Vista Public School! We are home to over 640 students and are a very close knit school community. We serve students in the Alta Vista community and have both English and Early French Immersion programs. We also host a Learning Disabilities Specialized Intervention Program (LD-SIP - Junior and Intermediate). Alta Vista is a storied school, having served the community since 1947.

We believe we offer not only an excellent academic experience but an opportunity for our children to develop a strength of character by emphasizing those traits which support that goal. We further promote the OCDSB Character Traits and Exit Outcomes with an emphasis on ensuring that our students are lifelong learners, finding their strengths and passions to promote a fulfilled life. We also promote independence, responsibility and a healthy lifestyle.

Keeping open communication between home and school is a priority for our whole school community. Follow Alta Vista Public School's Twitter account for updates about school life, and visit this website regularly for updates. Be sure as well to visit our School Council's website for updates from our parent community.

COVID-19 has altered the way our school operates on a daily basis. We are committed to providing the safest environment we possibly can for our students and staff. With efforts like enhanced cleaning, education on hand and respiratory hygiene, distancing and cohorting we work hard every day to keep our school as close to normal as possible. We look forward to returning to a more normal school experience with extra-curricular activities and field trips as soon as it is safe to do so.

The staff at Alta Vista is committed to providing the best quality education for each student. We look forward to working with you to help your child become the best version of themselves. Should you have any questions, concerns, or wish to reach out to the school, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or your admin team.  We are here to help and support.
