The safety of all of our students and staff is of paramount importance. Thank you for following these guidelines for drop off and pickup of your children at Alta Vista Public School.
The school yard is supervised starting at 8:55 am each school day. Students should not be dropped off prior to 8:55 or left unsupervised on the school's premises. Unless students are involved in staff supervised extra-curricular activities, students will not be granted entry into the school building prior to 8:55. Parents and caregivers are not permitted on the school yard during dropoff and pickup times.
The parking lot at St. Timothy's Presbyterian Church is available to our parents and caregivers for drop off and pickup every school day. A short 160 m walk from the school, this is the ideal location to drop off and pick up your children each day.
Most of our students walk to school. In the winter months the streets surrounding our school narrow from rising snowbanks. Dropping students off on these surrounding streets (Beaver Ave., Ralston St., Randall Ave., Ridgecrest Place) is dangerous.
Please do not stop or drop off on these streets. Doing so puts children's lives at risk.
The school's drop off lane is reserved exclusively for OSTA vehicles. Drivers are not permitted to use the drop off lane between the hours of 8:45 - 9:10 and 3:30 - 4:00.
The school's parking lot is reserved for staff and visitors.
Drivers should not use the parking lot as a drop off/pick up area for their children between the hours of 8:45 - 9:10 and 3:30 - 4:00.
Kindergarten Parents and Caregivers are the only parents/caregivers permitted on the school yard at drop off and pick up times. For the safety of our other students, parents and caregivers must remain within the red lines on this map and can only access the yard from Gate D. Kindergarten parents and caregivers may only drop off or pick up their child in kindergarten. Older children should make their own way to their designated section of the yard. Immediately following drop off or pick up, parents and caregivers must exit the yard through Gate D.
